The Stanford Cricket Ground – now the Coolidge Cricket Ground – is a fascinating example of the modernization of the sport in Antigua, combining prestige, controversy and renewal. Built under the aegis of Allen Stanford as a showcase for T20 cricket, it went into decline after the financial scandal, before being reborn as a center of excellence and international landmark for Caribbean cricket.

context

The site hosted the prestigious Stanford 20/20 tournaments in 2006 and 2008, as well as the Stanford Super Series in 2008, featuring the Stanford Superstars team against the England squad.
The ground also served as a base for Antigua Barracuda FC soccer club (2011-2012), which plays in the USL Pro.
Development project: The site is now integrated into the Cricket West Indies program as a high-performance center for player development, with a sustainable plan to turn it into a multi-use event center.
