Ethiopia’s largest stadium, Bahir Dar, is designed to host various national and international sporting events. It contributes to the development of football and the promotion of community engagement around sport in Ethiopia.

context
Bahir Dar Stadium, a promising future for sport in Ethiopia
This major sports facility represents a milestone for Ethiopia, offering a capacity of approximately 60,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in the country. By investing in modern and sustainable facilities, the project aims not only to promote sport at the national level, but also to attract international events such as the 2029 African Cup of Nations, for which Ethiopia has bid.
This project includes not only the main stadium, but also two annexes that will be used for various training sessions and events. Bahir Dar Stadium is thus a symbol of the promising future of sport in Ethiopia.
In September 2023, the stadium hosted a landmark match for local club Bahir Dar Kenema FC, who defeated Club Africain de Tunisie 2-0 in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. Although the Ethiopian team was subsequently eliminated in the second leg, the match highlighted the stadium’s potential to host major events.

Renovation of the Bahir Dar stadium and its annexes
- Stripping of the existing substrate and storage on site, Earthworks down to the base of the form and sloping;
- Resumption of slopes of the drainage layer in place (geotextile removal), Deep drainage network (central and peripheral);
- Installation of a “closing” layer on the existing drainage layer, Installation of a gravel drainage layer;
- Creation of an automatic watering network with 35 sprinklers and programming (replanting on existing HDPE at the edge of the field);
- Pumping unit installation;
- complete maintenance of the main lawns
- Installation of sports equipment.
