Project
context
the mbini stadium, a community gathering place
The Equatorial Guinean authorities have launched a program to renovate sports facilities across the country, including the complete rebuilding of the Mbini stadium soccer pitch, between 2011 and 2012. The project was launched in the run-up to the 2012 African Cup of Nations, which Equatorial Guinea co-hosted with Gabon, and aimed to provide secondary towns with facilities that met international standards.
Gregori International was asked to completely redesign the playing surface. The objective was clear: to make the Mbini stadium a reliable and durable facility, capable of meeting both the demands of competitions and the regular training needs of local and national teams.
This project reflects the country’s determination to make sport part of a balanced regional development strategy, by promoting regions outside the major urban centers. Thanks to this intervention, Mbini has acquired a structuring space for the practice of soccer, capable of welcoming future generations in optimal conditions.
