Misurata enjoys a privileged geographical location, between Tripoli to the west and Sirte to the east. Thanks to its modern port and transport infrastructure, the district is a major commercial crossroads linking Libya to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Its port, one of the busiest in the country, supports maritime trade, industrial imports and the export of manufactured goods.
Misurata is often referred to as Libya’s industrial capital. The district is home to several important industrial zones, including steelworks, mechanical workshops, textile industries and factories. It is also home to major Libyan companies, banks and free trade zones, encouraging economic development and investment.
The Misurata Free Zone attracts many foreign investors thanks to its tax advantages and logistical facilities, reinforcing the city’s role in Libya’s economic recovery.
Rich in history, Misurata boasts a unique cultural heritage blending Berber, Arab, Ottoman and Italian influences. Ancient remains, traditional souks and historic mosques can still be found here.
