The Cholpon-Ata racecourse is a vast equestrian infrastructure located some 270 km from Bishkek, in the village of Baktuu-Dolonotu on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul – making it the only arena in Central Asia built directly on the banks of a lake. Covering an area of 25 hectares, it can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators.

context
tcholpon-ata racecourse, for the 2016 world nomad games
It was built in record time, in compliance with national and international standards. The site quickly became a cultural and sporting hub: as soon as it was renovated in 2014, it hosted the first World Nomad Congress, followed by the World Nomad Games, major events showcasing ethnocultural sports (such as kok-boru, archery on horseback, traditional races, etc.). During the 2014 to 2018 editions, the racecourse embodied this cultural fervor, attracting athletes and visitors from many nations.
Festive and sporting events are also held here every year. On Victory Day (May 9), the racecourse becomes a venue for lively celebrations: public training sessions (archery, birds of prey), kok-boru matches, cultural shows – bringing together locals and tourists in a convivial atmosphere.
