Mining landfill
study

Guinea

La Minière landfill – STUDY – The La Minière landfill (located in the Dar-es-Salam 2 district), built on a former quarry in 1980, was intended to last only 20 years. Almost half a century later, Conakry continues to dump its 1,600 tonnes of garbage there every day. During the rainy season, this 25-hectare landfill sees whole sections of the garbage mountain collapse onto homes. The project involves rehabilitating the La Minière landfill, not only to make it safer, but also to protect the local population and recreate a living space.

Project
context

the mining landfill study, a health and social emergency

This study is part of an overall project to set up a new waste treatment system in the Conakry conurbation, with the creation of a landfill far from the capital. The solution studied includes the closure of the current mining landfill, site stabilization, identification of environmental and social issues, and site enhancement with harmonious landscape integration.

This is a scheme set up by the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance to finance feasibility studies in a pilot sector with a view to implementing a downstream project. The aim is to bring together the players involved in a rehabilitation project, to define the roles and responsibilities of each, and to propose a methodology ranging from the preliminary and detailed study to the technical and economic feasibility study. Gregori International brings together the skills needed to carry out these studies and support you through to rehabilitation. Our teams are made up of geotechnical engineers, construction engineers, environmentalists, landscape architects, urban planners and sociologists.
