Project
context
the chateau de versailles racecourse, ephemeral infrastructure for the 2024 olympics
The Château de Versailles racecourse, erected for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is an exceptional ephemeral installation nestled in the royal park, at the Étoile royale and bordering the Grand Canal. Designed to combine heritage enhancement and top-level equestrian sports, this 8,250 m² arena, surrounded by U-shaped stands accommodating up to 16,000 spectators, is the stage for dressage, show jumping and eventing competitions.
The cross-country course, meanwhile, stretches across the estate, with footbridges crossing the Grand Canal and a capacity of around 40,000 spectators. Based on a powerful dialogue between the art of dressage born at Versailles and the modernity of Olympic sport, the racecourse embodies the fusion of history, innovation and spectacle: a fleeting but memorable interlude, a promise to combine equestrian excellence and heritage majesty.
