Project
context

the Ibn Batouta stadium, a soccer jewel

The Tangier Stadium was designed as part of a program initiated by the Ministry of Public Works between 2009 and 2010, to support Morocco’s bid to host major African and international competitions. Entrusted to architect Jaouad Khattabi, the project is part of an overall plan to modernize the Kingdom’s stadiums, with the aim of meeting international standards in terms of capacity, safety and versatility.

Since its inauguration, Tangier Stadium has established itself as a major hub for Moroccan and regional soccer. It has hosted a number of major events, confirming its status as a benchmark facility: the 2018 Spanish Supercup (Barcelona vs Seville), the FIFA 2022 Club World Cup, international matches for the Moroccan national team, and Throne Cup finals.

Located in a booming city, this stadium embodies Morocco’s desire to combine sporting performance, tourist appeal and territorial structuring.
