Project
context

markopoulo racecourse hosts 2004 olympic games

The site covers almost 1,000,000 m² and features outdoor and indoor arenas, stables for over 250 horses, a veterinary clinic, paddocks and grandstands for up to 15,000 spectators, depending on the discipline. After the Games, the racecourse became the main center of horse racing in Greece, managed by Hellas Horse Races S.A. until the suspension of activities in 2024, due to economic difficulties. Despite this, the racecourse remains an emblematic site of Greek equestrian sport and an important legacy of the Athens Olympiad.
