The Rio 2016 cross-country was a true test of high-flying: long, fast, technically demanding and not very forgiving. It highlighted the exceptional qualities required of riders and horses capable of tackling such an ambitious course, on a par with the best international competitions. The course is remembered as one of the most challenging in recent Olympic equestrian history.

the cross-country track for the 2016 rio olympics
The route, although not extremely hilly, relied on gradual climbs, frequent tight bends, technical combinations, unusual angles, skinnies and particularly complex trajectories.
Iconic Rio-inspired elements were present: Arcos da Lapa (ancient bridges), Knowledge Bridge (leg-shaped pylon), Palm Tree Question, Fisherman’s Lake, Sambodromo, etc.
