The Akouédo Urban Park, located in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is an emblematic ecological and recreational project. Built on the site of the rehabilitated former Akouédo landfill, the park symbolizes the transition to sustainable development, transforming a degraded area into a green space dedicated to nature and well-being. Covering several hectares, the park features modern infrastructures such as playgrounds, walking trails, picnic areas and sports facilities. A veritable green lung for Abidjan, it aims to improve the quality of life of residents, raise awareness of environmental protection and enhance the city’s tourist appeal.

This unique urban park illustrates the conversion of a high-risk site into a green lung, accessible to the public, noted as a model for sustainable revitalization in African cities Designed as a place for pleasure and strolling, this park aims to attract a wide public, ranging from walkers to families, as well as sports and nature enthusiasts According to the government, this park will be one of Abidjan’s largest leisure sites, at the heart of a growing urban dynamic

The development is designed to generate a real new dynamic in terms of lifestyle, exchanges and job creation.

Before it could become a park and a community space, the site had to be stabilised in order to manage the environmental impacts and thus put an end to a critical public health situation.
